This will be the third attempt at a television series based on The World of Cruel Intentions (1999)
Synopsis
After a heated incident at their elite college, siblings Caroline and Lucien attempt to maintain their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. The direct-to-video sequel, Cruel Intentions 2 (2000), in which Amy Adams replaced Sarah Michelle Gellar as Catherine Mertel, was originally a scripted series before being adapted into a feature film.
Cruel Intentions (1999) follows
Gellar would later reprise her role as Catherine in the NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series, in 2016. With the exception of Sara Silva, who played CeCe, the entire cast was awful.
Not to say they weren’t decent actors
To say the acting was subpar is an understatement. But the main characters were definitely not suited to these roles.
It’s not a completely different story
The plot was decent, and while it’s understandable that they’re not the same characters as in the original film, they’re loosely based on them. They copied certain scenes from the original, like Caroline kissing Annie.
Lucien was supposed to be a sexy character like Sebastian, but how Zach Burgess was considered the right look and actor for the role, I have no doubt
Sarah Catherine Hook, who played Caroline, did a decent job playing the bitch, but like Zach and Lucien’s character, they weren’t exactly «sexy and seductive.» It would have helped if the show hadn’t used the title «Cruel Intentions,» but regardless, these actors and actresses just missed the mark.
